Agentic AI is garnering lots of attention across financial services given its transformative potential in enabling systems to operate autonomously, make decisions, and execute complex tasks without continuous human input. But while it offers huge opportunities for efficiency and innovation, concerns around data privacy, regulatory compliance and ethical implications cannot be overlooked.
In this week’s newsletter we explore how, over time, agentic AI is set to change the game for AI-native fintechs by helping to fuel innovation across commerce, SaaS, and personal financial management. We also look at its expected impact on the insurance industry and the efficiency savings it can deliver across claims processing, underwriting, customer service, risk management and regulatory compliance.
Finally, as demand for agentic AI grows, we examine the implications of deploying the technology more widely and the importance of first building a robust, flexible and scalable infrastructure.
BCG’s recent Global Fintech Report places agentic AI at the top of a list of five trends set to transform the industry. With many scaled-fintechs just beginning to move from GenAI pilots to production-scale deployment, agentic AI will drive significant changes in terms of productivity and innovation, with AI-native fintechs well positioned to lead the way.
Unlike traditional reactive AI, agentic AI can independently analyze complex situations, adapt its behavior, take decisions and perform tasks requiring advanced reasoning and goal-oriented execution. Applications in insurance include automating the claims assessment process; detecting patterns indicative of fraudulent claims; enhancing the underwriting process through detailed risk assessment; and delivering enhanced customer service and personalized recommendations.
First came generative AI, then AGI captured imaginations—now, agentic AI is what keeps the C-suite up at night. Leaders want AI that doesn’t just respond, but acts, decides, and delivers tangible business value. By 2028, Gartner predicts agentic AI will be embedded in a third of enterprise software and drive 15% of daily business decisions autonomously—up from just 1% in 2024.
