In our final newsletter of 2025, we share insights from industry experts examining some of the key trends, regulatory priorities and emerging technologies that are shaping the banking and capital markets landscape for 2026.

In the face of ongoing macroeconomic headwinds, Deloitte looks at what’s ahead for banks, capital markets and payments firms as they seek to sustain growth while balancing optimism and caution. Key challenges will include industrializing the use of AI at scale across their operations and navigating the potentially disruptive entrance of stablecoins.

Similarly, EY highlights how regulatory and technological developments are reshaping the industry’s operating environment. Localized regulations, faster-moving AI and digital asset innovation, as well as a heightened focus on resilience, cybersecurity and consumer protection are driving organizations to adapt more quickly than ever.

For further insights we’ve highlighted webinars from S&P Global and Celent examining the market outlook and tech trends for the year ahead. Wishing all our readers the very best for the festive season and a happy new year! We’ll be back in 2026.

2026 banking and capital markets outlook

In the face of lower interest rates, Deloitte emphasizes the importance of diversified non-interest income as a key revenue driver for banks in 2026. The outlook looks positive for potential fee growth in investment banking, capital markets and wealth management. Other new sources of income could include fees from stablecoins, data monetization and embedded finance, while payments growth may face headwinds from lower consumer spending.

Building strength: resilience and renewal in capital markets by 2026

S&P Global examines the resilience of equity and capital markets as we enter 2026, including rising equities, renewed IPOs and strategic M&A, while the rapid growth of private credit is reshaping commercial lending and challenging traditional banks.
