LONDON – Ordnance Survey (OS) appoints Metia Group to support the launch of its new geospatial data platform, OS Data Hub, and help grow the community of developers using its data services to build innovative solutions.
OS is Great Britain’s leading provider of geospatial data and expertise to business, government and citizens. Its range of services are used to support business and innovation, efficient delivery of public services, and the creation of economic value for the UK.
As part of its new initiatives, OS is looking to excite and engage developers to build new generations of apps using geospatial data in sectors ranging from housing, transport, retail, emergency response and public health, to agriculture, sustainability and environmental impact.
The newly launched OS Data Hub contains new and enhanced APIs allowing users to connect their apps and services directly to OS data. The APIs provide access to Britain's most detailed and up to date mapping data, including free access to OS MasterMap for the first time. OS has partnered with Metia Group to generate awareness and accelerate adoption of OS APIs among developer communities.
The Metia team is responsible for helping OS create a research-led go-to-market strategy, establishing the foundations for an engaged and thriving community of geospatial developers. Metia will work with the OS in-house team to ensure an easy and rewarding developer experience at all the critical moments from awareness and search, to activation and feedback.
Rebecca Paterson, OS Director of Customer and Marketing, said: “We have ambitious plans to improve the access and usability of OS data. Our new services are only the beginning. We look forward to collaborating closely with the Metia team to introduce a new wave of developers to working with OS data in creating the next generation of apps and services.”
“We’re delighted to be working with OS at this key moment in the evolution of geospatial data,” adds Steve Ellis, Founder, Metia Group. “This is an important project for UK citizens and businesses, and we are excited to be a part of it. Our expertise in working with developer communities means we are well-positioned to help OS drive awareness and promote adoption of the OS Data Hub and APIs.”
Ordnance Survey creates, maintains and distributes detailed location information for Great Britain. The organization records and keeps 500 million geospatial features in the OS MasterMap up to date. Through the OS Data Hub, OS is transforming the way customers access, share and innovate with world-leading geospatial data. For more information, visit www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk
